Everything Else :: God is all sufficient.

Subject: God is all sufficient.
Topic Replies: 0

God is all sufficient.

I have recently been struck by this fact, and the realization of how often we forget it. I had the great blessing of being able to counsel at Mt. View Bible camp this summer for two weeks. During this time I had the opportunity to see Gods sufficiency illustrated in one child’s life with amazing clarity.

Some campers come to camp clearly needing a savior. This particular camper was violent, disrespectful, hateful, and brimming with anger. He had no regard for anyone's feelings or well being, he simply wanted things his way and he was going to get things to be his way by any means possible. Every day was a constant struggle with him; when he was asked to do something he didn’t want to, he ran away and fought counselors sent to bring him back to where staff could keep an eye on him. Each day of camp a lesion was taught from the Bible. Each day of camp the gospel was presented. Each day of camp nothing seemed to soften this camper. Finally, Wednesday evening this camper stayed behind after the gospel meeting and asked the Lord Jesus Christ to come into his heart. To my knowledge there were no warning signs, and I know no counselor was able to 'push' the gospel into his firmly closed heart. Only God's grace was simply sufficient to open his heart cause him to understand and believe the gospel that evening. The next morning this camper was a new man in every sense of the phrase. He walked different, he talked different, he listened, he was obedient, he was enthusiastic to live the way he should because "I'm a Christian now" and "I've been saved!" Overnight God's grace was sufficient to no longer allow other camper's quirks bother him. He no longer ran away from staff members and didn’t throw another punch. Every word that could remotely be considered teasing was no longer taken in a bad light. Every bump was not treated as the start of a fight. Every accidental action now warranted an apology. God completely and utterly transformed this camper's life in the most visible of ways. It is SO easy for us to forget and under estimate the power God has to transform a life when it is placed in his care. HE IS ALL SUFFICIENT.

I would ask again, how often do we forget this fact? God does not want his grace to be just sufficient enough to save us and that’s it, His grace is sufficient enough to not only save us, but to transform every aspect of our lives into something pleasing to Him. He is capable of taking care of all our needs, all our desires, and all of our struggles. We simply have to let Him take control. Sure He could step in and take control, but how much greater the blessing is if we relinquish control to Him and admit that we cannot do it on our own. It's easy to come away from a great summer of camps and conferences with the feeling of great spiritual fullness and a mentality of "Ok, I'm all set now, I've been studying the Bible, I've learned a lot and I'm going to go live for Him now." The problem comes with the fact that there are 4 "I"s in that sentence. In fact, He's given us a great summer, He's given us the Bible and the wisdom to learn and understand it, and He wants to be our strength for living now. So how do we do it? First, stop and pray. Temptation and the opportunity to fall into sin presents itself around every corner, in every conversation, in every step we walk. If we constantly ask ourselves if what we are doing right now is for God's glory, while keeping our gaze (think goals in life, and purpose in day to day activities) fixed on Him we will soon find ourselves walking the straight and narrow path that leads to him. If we are constantly thinking and meditating upon him, when a conversation starts with a friend or coworker, we will be fresh with Him on our minds, and our faces will shine like Moses’. I would encourage you to find ways that you can keep Christ Jesus on your mind throughout the day. Whether it be listening to Christian music, getting a daily verse e-mail, having a verse calendar on your desk, taking time at lunch to read a chapter, listening to the Bible or conference recordings on the commute to school or work or while jogging, etc... The opportunities are endless, the point is you have to find a few that work for you and stick to doing them. Find a friend or two who is willing to ask you about how you are doing with them and encourage and pray for you, and you can do the same back. If our gaze is fixed on Him and we are dwelling with Him in a very real way throughout the day, we will be unable fall anywhere except on Him because He is surrounding us. Furthermore, when we fall on Him the true blessings can come. He will carry us though each and every day, providing for us, and providing the opportunities to be a testimony to those around us.

Finally, I just want to reemphasize the fact that all this begins with prayer. Keep a close conversation with your Abba Father. And, pray for each other. Many of us have renewed or created great friendships this year at camps and conferences, so let's pray for each other! Finally, please also pray for the many who have recently come into a saving relationship with Jesus Christ this summer at various camps and conferences that they may continue to grow and live for Him even though they are now back in the world.

Luke 18:27 - And he said, The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.
1 Thessalonians 5:17 - Pray without ceasing.

Just a quick update:

The young people's singing has all been uploaded and is available now! Talent night is in the works. It is by far the hardest (and most fun) to edit and takes the most time. In approximately the same time it took me to edit all of the YP's songs I was only able to edit three talent night songs! The good news is, the talent night stuff sounds really good!

Over the past year, my aunt Lori Ginnery has been having a lot of back pain. The doctors had thought it was just a problem with a disc. We just found out last night that she has cancer. She has lesions all over her spine and ribcage. Please pray for her and her family--husband Steve, son Stephen, daughter Nichole, granddaughter Emmaleigh (just a few weeks old). At least a few of them have made professions of salvation, but I'm not sure about any of their spiritual states.

Thanks for your prayers!
